Our Story
In 1974, Mondeor Methodist Church began hosting Sunday School classes in Glenanda, using the garage of the O’Brien family home. It soon became apparent that many parents were dropping their children off in Glenanda and then travelling through to Mondeor to attend the church service – an impractical arrangement. In response, these families started gathering for worship at the Lineker home, conveniently located opposite Glenanda Primary School.
By July 1979, a steering committee had been established to organise the development and constitution of a united church. This initiative aligned with the broader vision of the Church Unity Commission (CUC), a collaborative effort between the Anglican, Congregational, Methodist, and Presbyterian denominations. The CUC encouraged cooperation, particularly in emerging communities, and provided a constitutional framework to guide the formation and governance of united churches – including the rotation of ministers among participating denominations.
In the late 1980s, the congregation acquired its current property, and construction of the administration block and classrooms commenced in the early 1990s. Much of the building material was generously donated, while the congregation actively supported fundraising efforts through initiatives such as morning markets, fêtes, and golf days.
Through remarkable provision, sufficient funds were raised to also construct a church hall. By the end of the 1990s, the congregation had progressed to building the caretaker’s cottage and the main sanctuary. A significant portion of this work was carried out by dedicated members of the church, with Saturday morning work parties becoming both productive and joyful occasions. Many members went so far as to convert personal loans into donations, and by the early 2000s, all debts had been fully settled.
In the years since, the church has continued to grow, undertaking additional projects such as the development of a youth centre, financed in a similar spirit of generosity and community effort. Reflecting on this journey, the congregation can only express deep gratitude for God’s abundant provision and enduring faithfulness.
